A series of cars crashed on the highway, many people were injured and died.

At least one person died and dozens were injured in an accident on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway early this morning.

The accident occurred at around 5am on January 4, 2017 at the Long Thanh overpass. A strong collision between 3 vehicles, including a container truck with a HCM City license plate and 2 52-seat passenger vans traveling in the same direction from Dong Nai to HCM City, caused the passenger van to overturn.

"When we arrived, many people in the passenger bus were lying motionless, more than 10 people were taken to hospitals, many others were injured, and the buses were blocking more than a hundred meters of the road," said a witness.

With a length of 55 km, the Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway passes through Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, helping to shorten the distance from Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau and the South Central provinces by about more than an hour compared to before.

The maximum speed limit on the highway is 120 km/h, the minimum is 80 km/h. About 45,000 vehicles travel this route every day.

Currently, authorities are recording the scene, investigating the cause and clearing the route as soon as possible.
