Thousands of Bulgarian rose bushes in full bloom ahead of festival
More than 1,000 Bulgarian rose trees of 114 varieties and more than 200 Vietnamese bonsai rose trees have gathered at West Lake Water Park.

| To prepare for the festival, more than 1,000 Bulgarian rose trees were transported to Vietnam in December 2017. After that, the Institute of Genetics - Ministry of Agriculture - took care of the trees so they could bloom. |

| Due to the difference in climate, especially temperature, caring for roses is difficult. Not only that, because the two countries do not have an agreement on agriculture, bringing flowers back to the country also goes through many complicated steps. |

| In addition, more than 200 Vietnamese bonsai rose trees were also brought to the festival by gardeners in Van Giang (Hung Yen), Me Linh (Hanoi), and Thang Long flower and ornamental plant farm. |

| Mr. Dao Manh Hung, the person in charge of arranging bonsai roses, said that rose grafting technology in Vietnam is still in its early stages, so the quality of the participating flowers is not really high. However, this will be a great opportunity for rose growers in Vietnam to learn the methods of other countries. |

| Ornamental plant expert Trinh Thuan Duc will be the judge of the rose competition at the festival. He said that judging the flowers is difficult because the plants are not perfect: plants with beautiful flowers have bad roots, plants with beautiful roots and stems have no flowers. However, the competition, comments, and analysis will help everyone understand the subtleties of how to play with roses. |

| Besides thousands of rose bushes, the organizers also used many flower pots, especially carpet flowers, for decoration. |

| A day before the festival, some roses had wilted. Because they are displayed outdoors, roses depend a lot on the weather, just a thunderstorm can make the flowers wither immediately. |

| "Not only that, the audience's awareness is also very important. If everyone who comes to see the flowers holds, picks, and touches them, the roses cannot stay beautiful for long," Mr. Nguyen Duc Lien shared. |
