Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang's family in Hamlet 2, Hoa Son Commune (Anh Son) has 5 sao of sugarcane, which can be harvested in about 2 months to import to the factory, however, currently, over 80% of the area has completely collapsed.

Mr. Hoang said: After the storm on September 7, when his family went to check, most of the sugarcane area had collapsed. The saddest thing is that the sugarcane is in the period of strong growth, however, the possibility of saving it is very low when many trees are broken in the middle of the trunk, uprooted, and cannot survive even if they are raised up, this year's sugarcane crop is considered a total loss.

According to statistics from Hoa Son commune authorities, the entire commune has 111 hectares of sugarcane production, of which 40 hectares were destroyed by the storms in recent days and are unlikely to recover.

Not only Hoa Son commune but also many other localities have large areas of broken sugarcane such as Hung Son, Tam Son, Duc Son, Binh Son...

Mr. Le Van Tri - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Anh Son district said: The whole district currently has 1,400 hectares of raw sugarcane, however, after the storms, up to 600 hectares were broken. This is the most severely damaged crop area in the area at present.

The district is currently directing localities to mobilize people to rebuild the collapsed areas that are still viable. For areas that cannot be saved, the district is also contacting sugar factories to "rescue" the people. However, the difficulty here is that the sugarcane is still young and the sugar content is not enough to meet production targets. Another option is that the district is contacting dairy companies to purchase tree trunks for animal feed, minimizing damage to the people.

“In addition to the area of broken sugarcane, after the recent storm, in Anh Son district, there was also a landslide of 400 meters on the riverbank in Tam Son commune. Many areas of land growing sugarcane are at risk of being swept away by the water if there is no timely embankment solution,” Mr. Tri added.
