Speaking on BFM TV, Mr. Le Drian affirmed that it is extremely difficult for these people to find a way to return to France.
According to statistics from the French Interior Ministry, in the past five years, more than 240 militants have returned to France, including about 50 minors. About 130 are in prison, the rest are under the strict control of law enforcement agencies. Currently, the police are monitoring 18,400 people in an electronic database of threats to national security.
The French military's participation in the US-led anti-terrorist coalition has caused the country to suffer many bloody attacks since late 2015. The state of emergency has always been maintained at a high level and only ended when President Emmanuel Macron officially issued an anti-terrorism law in early November./.
