On January 7, hundreds of millions of Chinese people began their journey home to celebrate Lunar New Year with their families and loved ones, marking the 2023 Spring Festival.

This year's Chunyun Festival takes place in the context that the Chinese Government has adjusted its "No COVID" policy and will lift all COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures from January 8.

China's Ministry of Transport forecasts that total passenger traffic during this Chunyun period will reach nearly 2.1 billion, up 99.5% year-on-year.

In the Yangtze River Delta, one of the regions with the largest number of people returning home for the Lunar New Year holiday in China, the railway industry has prepared about 60 million passenger trains during the 40-day peak, returning to a three-year high and equivalent to 80% of the number of trains compared to 2019 levels.

In Guangdong, the southern economic hub, the figure is estimated at 25.4 million trips.

Rail transport companies in the area have decided to increase trips to meet the high travel demand.

This year's Chinese Spring Festival lasts 40 days, starting from January 7 and ending on February 15./.
