The US embassy in Baghdad was bombarded early Sunday morning, July 5, with Patriot air defense missile systems used to repel the attack.

"There was a rocket fired at the US Embassy in central Baghdad. The rocket was intercepted by a Patriot air defense missile system and landed in an apartment building near the embassy," the US Embassy in Baghdad said.
The information also added that one child was injured.
The incident occurred hours after the United States tested the Patriot air defense system at its embassy in Baghdad, which angered Iraq. In particular, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hassan al-Qa'abi, and the head of the parliamentary security and defense committee, Mohammed Al Reed, called the move a "provocation," as reported by Rudaw TV.
The frequent targets of rocket attacks from improvised launchers are the Iraqi capital's "Green Zone" - home to government offices and embassies, as well as Baghdad International Airport, which is adjacent to a military airport. Such incidents usually result in no civilian casualties or significant damage.
In mid-June this year, the Unified Command of the Iraqi Armed Forces announced that Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi had ordered the establishment of special committees to prevent such incidents.
