The closing day of the convention at the Wells Fargo Center - the venue of the four-day Democratic convention - was dominated by a deep divide between a pro-Clinton camp and a protest camp, mainly from California delegates.
But what stood out were millions of flags raised high, cheers and thunderous applause as she stepped out.
In her speech, Mrs. Clinton first thanked those who have always stood by her side, especially her fiance Bill Clinton and current President Barack Obama.
She also thanked Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who was her opponent in the party's primary race for President.
Mrs. Clinton once again affirmed that unity is “the only way to make progressive plans a reality.”
Mrs. Clinton also mentioned billionaire Donald Trump, her opponent in the upcoming two-horse race to the White House.
She said Mr. Trump “wants to divide us, from the rest of the world and from within the Democratic Party. He wants us to be afraid of the future and afraid of each other. But we will never be afraid, we will rise from the challenge. We will not build a wall, but instead we will work to build an economy where everyone has the opportunity to get a good-paying job.”
Mrs. Clinton admitted that there are still too many disagreements and negativity in society, but she affirmed that with the "most dynamic people in the world", with the "most powerful military force", with the most enduring values of "freedom, equality, justice and opportunity" and with the united strength of the whole nation, all difficulties will be overcome.
“With humility, determination, and boundless faith in the promise of America, I accept your nomination to be our nominee for President of the United States in 2016,” Clinton said.
She recalled her thorny but interesting political journey, from being a first lady, then 8 years as a New York state senator, then running for President in 2008 but losing, then becoming the female Secretary of State.
All of this has made her the person she is today, never giving up but always determined to achieve her goals.
She outlined her approach immediately after becoming President. “In my first 100 days, we will work with both parties to pass the largest investment in new jobs for all since World War II. These include manufacturing, clean energy, technology and innovation, small businesses, and infrastructure.”
Candidate Clinton also mentioned that she would cooperate with Mr. Sanders to “make college tuition free for the middle class and relieve the burden of debt for all.”
Turning to foreign policy, Clinton said, “Anyone who reads the news these days has seen the threat and chaos we face, from Baghdad and Kabul, to Nice and Paris and Brussels, to San Bernardino and Orlando, we are facing growing dangers. You want a leader who will keep you safe. I am confident we will contain Iran’s nuclear program without firing a shot. I am confident we will stand with our NATO allies against any threat, including from Russia.”
Mrs. Clinton also affirmed that she has laid out a strategy to defeat IS, through a campaign of airstrikes against their strongholds, supporting local forces on the ground, improving intelligence to detect and prevent attacks before they happen, disrupting efforts to recruit fighters online and instilling radical ideology in young Americans.
Immediately after the convention ends, Mrs. Hillary Clinton will immediately conduct election campaigns in a series of states./.
