Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and chairman Stan Kroenke met on Monday to discuss the Frenchman's future. According to Reuters, Wenger has decided to sign a new two-year contract with the London club.

Wenger's current contract expires in June, but by agreeing to sign a two-year extension, the coach nicknamed "The Professor" will continue his 21-year reign at Highbury/Emirates.

In the 2016-2017 season, Arsenal finished 5th in the Premier League. This was the first time they finished outside the top 4 since manager Wenger arrived in London in 1996.

Last season, criticism of Wenger became increasingly worse, especially after the 2-10 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The 67-year-old strategist affirmed that these criticisms were insults and he would never forget. The peak was when Arsenal lost 1-3 to West Brom in March, a plane flew over the pitch with a banner reading “Wenger Out Means Out” - Wenger go - and this was repeated in the match against Stoke City on 13/5.

After the Premier League season, Wenger himself said his future would be decided after the FA Cup final. And fortunately, Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 to win the FA Cup.

During his time leading Arsenal, Coach Wenger helped the "Gunners" win the Premier League 3 times and the most memorable title was probably the 2003-2004 season when they did not lose a single match.

However, he has had to endure a lot of criticism when going 9 years without a title since the FA Cup in 2005. However, Wenger has somewhat reassured the North London fans with 2 consecutive FA Cups in 2014 and 2015.
