According to statistics, following the collapse of the tin mining waste sludge dam at Suoi Bac Tin Mine ( thuộc Nghe Tinh Non-Ferrous Metals Joint Stock Company), 20 households in Quy Hop district suffered fish deaths, resulting in losses of over 300kg, mainly concentrated in the communes of Chau Quang, Chau Cuong, and Chau Thanh.
Not only have fish died in large numbers, but some rice paddies belonging to farmers in the communes along the Nam Huong stream have also been polluted, with sediment accumulating. In Chau Quang commune, Quy Hop district alone, 300 hectares of rice paddies have been affected.
Although the cause of the mass fish deaths has not yet been definitively determined, Nghe Tinh Non-Ferrous Metals Joint Stock Company has proactively coordinated with local authorities to provide assistance to affected households, helping them stabilize their lives.

This time, 20 households affected by fish deaths received a total of nearly 30 million VND. Nghe Tinh Non-Ferrous Metals Joint Stock Company also committed that once the cause of the fish deaths is determined to be due to the company's wastewater sludge, the company will continue to compensate the affected people.
Mr. Tran Van Tuan, Chairman of the Chau Quang Commune People's Committee, said that these support measures help people overcome immediate difficulties and stabilize production. The commune government also issued a warning and notice to the people not to eat the fish or use water from the stream for production or daily life.
Mr. Tuan hopes that the relevant authorities will soon determine the cause of the fish deaths, as well as the water quality of the Nam Huong stream, which is the most urgent matter for the local people at this time.
