Miss Student Was Criticized For Poor Behavior But Still Won The Crown

Surpassing 30 contestants present at the final night, contestant Dang Thi Thu Hong (candidate number 442) became the new Miss of the crown "Charming Vietnamese Female Student 2016"

On the evening of December 10, Dang Thi Thu Hong, a student of the Hotel and Tourism Management Department at Da Nang College of Commerce, became the new Miss "Charming Vietnamese Female Student 2016".

In addition, the title of 1st Runner-up belonged to Ngo Thi Mai Phuong (SBD 173), Ton Hong Hoa (SBD 764) won the title of 2nd Runner-up in the final night of the contest held on the evening of December 10, 2016 at Hoa Binh Theater (HCMC).

Throughout the entire competition, the 19-year-old student conquered the challenges as well as the 7 judges of the final night to become the owner of the crown of Miss "Charming Vietnamese Female Student 2016".

Thu Hong's victory was widely reported by the press after the coronation night ended. While the two runners-up received little attention, most of the questions focused on the judges' decisions and the new beauty queen.

Representatives of VietNamNet, VnExpress and Nguoi Lao Dong continuously raised questions about the transparency and fairness of Thu Hong's performance compared to other contestants. A representative of Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper commented that Thu Hong's answer was the worst in the Top 5.

In the behavioral round, the 19-year-old girl received a question from judge - actor Chi Bao: "If you could change one thing in the past, what would you like to change and why?", Thu Hong answered: "In my opinion, life is about looking towards the future. Instead of wanting to change the past, I will change the present and improve myself to live a better and more useful life, thereby contributing my efforts to a better society."

This is the question that was used in the behavioral round of the Miss Universe 2001 contest. The new beauty queen said she was completely satisfied with her behavioral answer, but when asked about her ability to win the crown after the behavioral round, Thu Hong shared that she was only about 60% confident.

In the Top 5 after the behavioral round, many people commented that Ta Huyen My and Ngo Thi Mai Phuong were the contestants with the highest chance of winning because of their complete content and confidence in the behavioral round.

Mr. Nguyen Phi Long - Secretary of the Central Youth Union, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, Head of the Competition Steering Committee expressed that Thu Hong's victory was not only based on the behavioral part (accounting for less than 25% of the score) but also on the entire process of participating in the competition which lasted about 4 months.

Besides, he emphasized that the competition is organized as a playground for young female students to express themselves, and besides, they are very young and have little life experience, so they really need sympathy and sharing from everyone. He said that he and the Central Youth Union completely trust in the transparency and impartiality of the Jury, who are famous, prestigious and experienced artists.

During the press conference after the final night, Thu Hong appeared quite cautious about the content that the press exploited. Many times the first-year student seemed hesitant about issues that were outside her interests, such as taking advantage of her title to join showbiz, even though the press conference MC had suggested many times how to answer the question skillfully.

The new beauty queen said that if she had the opportunity to participate in World Miss University 2016, the 1m66 tall beauty would be willing to participate in this contest.
