US - Vietnam issue Joint Statement on combating climate change
On May 22 in Washington (morning of May 23, Hanoi time), the United States and Vietnam issued a Joint Statement on Partnership to Combat Climate Change.

The US State Department press release said that the US State Department, representing the US government, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, representing the Vietnamese government, adopted a Joint Statement on Climate Change Partnership, agreeing on the need to respond to climate change on a global scale, one of the greatest challenges facing humanity.
The statement emphasized that the United States and Vietnam will work together to implement the Paris Agreement as part of the international community’s collective efforts to combat climate change. The two sides recognized the importance of investment decisions over the next five years, particularly in areas such as energy and land use, including cropland, to transition to a low-emission economy to meet the goals set out in the Paris Agreement while maintaining economic growth. The statement noted that Vietnam is vulnerable to global climate change and the United States will support Vietnam’s efforts to build resilience, reduce risks, and prepare for the impacts of climate change.

According to the Joint Statement, the United States will support Vietnam in meeting the goals set out in the Renewable Energy Development Strategy. The two countries will promote cooperation to increase investment from both the public and private sectors to implement clean energy projects, renewable energy, high efficiency or energy sources with low greenhouse gas emissions. The Statement affirms the United States' support for Vietnam's Green Growth Action Plan, supporting Vietnam in improving its ability to implement green development strategies in the fields of industrial manufacturing, transportation, construction and finance. The United States is committed to supporting Vietnam in enhancing resilience and minimizing damage from climate change in the Mekong Delta and the Red River Delta through bilateral and regional cooperation./.
