12th grade students in Nghe An complete registration for high school graduation exam
Today, April 28, is the deadline for 12th graders to register for the 2025 high school graduation exam. Initial statistics show that this year, the number of candidates registering for social subjects is still dominant.
Consider before signing up
Normally, the registration of subjectshigh school graduation examIt is just a formality because the candidates have decided which subjects to choose and take the exam since the beginning of grade 12. However, this year, many students are considering it, even though the graduation exam is very close.
Teacher Phan Dinh Truong - Vice Principal of Nghe An Ethnic Minority High School said: Up to this point, many universities have not yet announced their admission plans. Some schools have changed their admission combinations unexpectedly, such as the Academy of Journalism and Communication, so students are very hesitant when registering for university entrance exams. I think that if the plans were announced early, candidates would have an easier time.

This morning, according to the synthesis of Le Hong Phong High School, 323 students of the school have completed the registration for the high school graduation exam. Student Nguyen Tu An - class 12A1 said: Since grade 10, I have been oriented towards the natural sciences, so I did not encounter many difficulties when registering for the elective subjects, which are Physics - Chemistry. This is also the subject I plan to apply for NV1 to the University of Science and Technology and I hope I will have a successful exam.
Through synthesis, in addition to the two compulsory subjects of Math and Literature, the percentage of Le Hong Phong High School students registering for elective subjects is Physics 17%, Chemistry 19%, History 27.5%, Geography 51.7%, Economics and Law 50.5%, English 31% and Biology 3.5%.

Teacher Nguyen Bich Hanh - Principal of the school said: The current trend is that students choose more social subjects, especially Geography and Economics and Law. The main goal is to graduate and then they have many other paths to choose from, not necessarily taking the university entrance exam. Like in our school, the number of students wishing to go to university is only about 40 - 50% and only students with real ability choose to take the university entrance exam.
Career-oriented choices
In the 2025 high school graduation exam, Nghe An province has more than 38,000 12th grade students participating. This is the first exam to be implemented according to the 2018 General Education Program and this is also the first batch of high school students to study under this program. Therefore, not only in grade 12 but also in grade 10, students have the right to choose their own elective subjects.

Before that, from the time they entered high school, schools also provided career counseling and orientation so that students could choose subjects that were suitable for their abilities and future career aspirations.
Teacher Cao Thanh Bao - Principal of Ha Huy Tap High School said: This year our school has 708 students registered for the exam and 456 registered for English, 301 students registered for Physics and 197 students registered for Chemistry. This is also consistent with the career orientation of students from grade 10 and the current trend of students often choosing the D block combination (Math - Literature - English) and A1 block (Math - Physics - English). These are also the combinations used by many schools for university admission.

In the whole province, initial statistics show that, among more than 40,000 students registered for the exam, more than 38,000 grade 12 students took the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, accounting for over 98%; the remaining 1.9% of independent candidates took the exam according to the current Education Program.
Regarding registered subjects, Geography is the subject with the largest number of candidates registering for the exam with more than 18,000 students. Next is History with more than 17,000 students and Economics and Law with more than 12,000 students. For natural subjects such as Chemistry and Physics, the number of registrations is from 8,000 to 9,000 students and mainly concentrated in traditional schools such as Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Ha Huy Tap, Thanh Chuong 1, Phan Dang Luu, Quynh Luu 1, Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School, Vinh University High School, Hoang Mai High School... These are also schools with high university registration rates in the province.

Meanwhile, schools that have had low numbers of students enrolling in university for many years now, most of them choose social subjects as their elective subjects. There are even schools with very low numbers of students enrolling in natural subjects, only a few students, such as Tuong Duong 1 High School, Tuong Duong 2 High School, and Muong Qua High School.
According to the first statistics, the number of students registering for English as an elective subject is also very low, only about 8,000 students. This seems to be a forewarning because English has been the subject with the lowest exam results in Nghe An province for many years and many students "turn their backs" on English because they are worried about low scores and difficulty in achieving average scores.
