On February 13, the United Nations Security Council convened an emergency meeting to discuss North Korea's latest ballistic missile test.

At the end of a closed-door meeting, member states of the United Nations' most powerful body unanimously condemned Pyongyang's missile test and warned of further "strong sanctions" against Pyongyang.

UN Security Council member states, including China, Pyongyang's key ally, agreed to a US-drafted statement describing the missile test as a "grave violation" of UN Security Council resolutions.

Earlier the same day, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned North Korea's ballistic missile test.

The UN Secretary-General stated: "Pyongyang has once again violated UN Security Council resolutions. The North Korean leadership must return to full compliance with its international obligations and the path to nuclear disarmament."

Mr. Guterres also called on the international community to continue to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue with a unified voice.

Earlier, North Korea confirmed the "successful" test launch of the Pukguksong-2 medium-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile.

The South Korean Defense Ministry said the missile was launched from Banghyon air base in North Pyongan province, and flew about 50km before falling into the Sea of Japan.
