Islamic extremists linked to killing of 2 police officers in Russia

(Baonghean.vn) - Extremist Islamic forces are involved in the murder of two police officers in the city of Astrakhan, Russia - Astrakhan Province Governor Alexander Zhilkin said in an emergency meeting with the Anti-Terrorism Center.

"In the middle of the night on April 3, a group of Wahhabi Islamist extremists caused a traffic accident, but in fact it was a daring attack on the traffic police," Governor Zhilkin affirmed.

He stressed that the crimes of these four suspects are unforgivable. Astrakhan police are mobilizing all forces and coordinating with Interpol to launch a global manhunt.

Earlier, two Russian police officers were shot dead while working at the scene of a traffic accident. The perpetrators fled after firing several shots.

The attack occurred while the whole of Russia was on "red alert" after the bombing of the St. Petersburg subway. As of now, the death toll has risen to 14 people, and 50 people were injured. This number is expected to continue to rise.
