Information sharing workshop to promote human rights education at preschool and primary levels

(Baonghean.vn) - The workshop aims to clarify scientific and practical arguments and propose solutions to bring the content and methods of human rights education to preschool and primary schools in our country in the coming time.

On the afternoon of June 9, the Executive Board of the Education Projecthuman rights- Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics - in coordination with the Department of Education and Training organized a workshop to share information on promoting human rights education at preschool and primary levels.

The workshop was chaired by Prof. Dr. Le Van Loi - Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics - Head of the project's executive board.

Co-chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Tuong Duy Kien, Director of the Institute of Human Rights, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Dao Cong Loi - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, and representatives of a number of universities, departments of education and training, and leaders of a number of primary and preschool schools across the province.

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Dao Cong Loi said that in recent years, human rights content has been included in the curriculum of a number of subjects such as Ethics and Civic Education, through lessons in the legal education system and has achieved a number of important results.

However, these contents are not systematic and consistent, and do not fully cover the values, principles, and standards of human rights; documents and teaching and learning materials on human rights at training institutions in the national education system, especially integrated guidance documents, are still lacking, affecting the quality and effectiveness of education and the training and fostering of teachers.

Meanwhile, from September 5, 2017, the Prime Minister issued a decision approving the Project to incorporate human rights content into the education program in the national education system for the period 2017-2025.

The Project's objective is to propagate, disseminate, and educate human rights, creating a change in the awareness of learners, teachers, and educational administrators about the importance and awareness of self-protection of their own rights, respect for dignity, rights, and freedoms of others; awareness of the responsibilities and obligations of citizens towards the state and society, contributing to the comprehensive development of Vietnamese people to meet the requirements of integration and sustainable development of the country.

According to the approved plan, by 2025, 100% of educational institutions in the national education system will organize human rights education for learners. The human rights education program in the national education system is specifically determined for each level of education and training program.

In order to have more theoretical and practical information for the effective implementation of the project, the scientific workshop "Sharing information on human rights education at preschool and primary levels in Vietnam today" will collect and share information including both theory and practice for the development and implementation of documents on human rights education.

The workshop also clarified scientific and practical arguments and proposed solutions to bring the content and methods of human rights education to preschool and primary schools in our country in the coming time.

Speaking at the workshop, Prof. Dr. Le Van Loi - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics - Head of the project's executive board also requested the delegates to objectively assess the current situation of the content and methods of human rights education in kindergartens and primary schools, focusing on the teaching staff, teaching programs, the integration of human rights into the education program; education plans; teaching activities; nurturing, health care; monitoring and evaluating children's development. Especially sharing about the advantages and difficulties in teaching practices in the locality.

From the contributions, there will be unity of thought and perception; consensus on content and methods; sharing and joining hands in action so that the introduction of human rights into preschool and primary schools in our country in the coming time will achieve higher efficiency, contributing to ensuring and promoting human rights in Vietnam better and better./.
