On May 2, Turkish lawmakers clashed during a discussion session over a proposed constitutional change.

Television footage showed lawmakers from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and lawmakers from the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) brawling after a heated debate.

Several MPs even climbed on tables to attack opponents from above while bottles and objects were thrown around the room. HDP head of parliament Idris Baluken was slightly injured in the incident.

The media said it was the most violent brawl in the history of the country's parliament, a sign that new political tensions are still rising.

A fight broke out during a session of the National Assembly's Constitutional Committee to discuss a government proposal to lift immunity from prosecution for lawmakers.

The proposal, which has strong support from the AKP, is seen as one of the government's latest moves to prosecute lawmakers accused of links to Kurdish militants, amid escalating conflict between government forces and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) since mid-2015.
