Coach Philippe Troussier is in Vietnam, ready to take the 'hot' seat

The event of Coach Philippe Troussier coming to Vietnam has attracted great attention from domestic media.

In front of the warm welcome of many press representatives at Noi Bai airport, coach Philippe Troussier shared: “It is a pleasure to return to Vietnam today, a country where I have been attached for 2 years. What I feel is so familiar, from the culture and people here. I feel honored and proud to take over the position of Head Coach of the Vietnam national team. I am ready for the new task. Leading the Vietnam national team, a promising team, makes me feel motivated and excited. Thank you for your attention to me”.

Coach Philippe Troussier and VFF signed a contract for more than 3 years, from March 1, 2023 to July 2026. The new French captain is in charge of the U23 team and the national team.

Recently, there has been a lot of conflicting information about the salary that VFF pays to coach Philippe Troussier. Initially, the French strategist was said to receive a salary of 4 billion VND/month, but later received only more than 1 billion VND/month, not much different from his predecessor Park Hang-seo.

The most impressive thing that coach Philippe Troussier left with VFF is youth training. When he was still leading the U19 Vietnam team, the French strategist made a list of about 100 players to prepare for the conquest of the 2026 World Cup. This group of players later entered the final round of the 2020 U20 Asian Cup, but unfortunately could not attend due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and Mr. Philippe Troussier himself had to say goodbye to Vietnam.

According to the plan, the Vietnam team will gather from March 8 to March 12, with about 28 players expected to be called up, the core of which will still be the faces who have "fought" in international tournaments in recent times. However, in this gathering, new Head Coach Philippe Troussier may not call up 3 players who are playing abroad: Quang Hai (France), Cong Phuong (Japan) and Van Toan (Korea).
