(Baonghean.vn) - Coach Philippe Troussier was dissatisfied when the U23 Vietnam players were held to a 2-2 draw by Singapore in the final match of Group C of the U23 Asian qualifiers.

Although rated much higher than U23 Singapore and having home field advantage,U23 Vietnamonly got a 2-2 draw on the farewell day of the 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho) on the evening of September 12. Coach Philippe Troussier's students soon completed the goal of qualifying for the U23 Asian qualifiers, so in the final match of the group stage, the French strategist gave opportunities to many players who had not played much in the previous matches.

Speaking at the press conference after the match, coach Troussier was not satisfied with the draw and said that U23 Vietnam deserved to win.

"A draw was not the goal set from the beginning of the match. If we consider the parameters of ball possession and finishing, U23 Vietnam deserved to win. The players' determination decreased when U23 Vietnam completed the goal early. All players were sent onto the field. This is a valuable lesson for U23 Vietnam because holding the ball a lot does not necessarily mean scoring. This is also my lesson when letting the players play more freely, more comfortably and lacking precision at decisive moments."

It can be seen that although U23 Vietnam is somewhat inferior in terms of physical strength compared to the other team, we still scored a goal from a set piece situation by Huu Nam. Coach Troussier said that this is the strength of Vietnamese football and has been systematized from the national championship.

"Regarding set pieces, this is the strength of Vietnamese football. My goal is to balance the number of goals between set pieces and open play. This also stems from the reality in the V-League when goals often come from set pieces or pass to foreign strikers to handle. I am trying to improve every day so that the players can score more goals from open play, reaching the level of continental football."

Also at the press conference, player Huu Nam, who made a mistake leading to the first goal but scored to make it 2-1, said: "Today I was on the field so I was quite nervous. The pressure was even heavier after conceding a goal from a personal error. However, I am determined to change, not to repeat mistakes from similar situations and try to make up for my mistakes. When I did, I was very happy."

Thus, after 3 qualifying matches, U23 Vietnam topped Group C with 2 wins and 1 draw. In Group C, only U23 Vietnam will participate in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals./.
