Hyundai Grand i10 assembled in Vietnam - differences with the imported version

The upgraded A-segment hatchback model, assembled in Vietnam, is sold in 9 versions priced from 340 - 435 million VND.

The Grand i10 has emerged as a force threatening Kia Morning’s market share in the past three years, with its Indian import origin. Customers’ confidence in the quality of imported cars from India is not much different from that of domestically assembled cars, and many even believe that Indian standards are lower. The launch of the i10 assembled in Vietnam is a new step to lower car prices, preparing for a long-term battle from 2018.

The assembled version of the Grand i10 changes the design on both the sedan and hatchback versions. New style grille, more sophisticated headlights. LED daytime running lights are arranged with fog lights. While the rear of the car has a refined rear bumper to make it easier to distinguish between the assembled and imported i10.

The 2017 i10 retains its dimensions. The hatchback is 3,765 mm long, while the sedan is slightly longer at 3,995 mm. Both have the same width of 1,660 mm, height of 1,505 mm, wheelbase of 2,425 mm, ground clearance of 152 mm and use 14-inch rims combined with 165/65 tires.

The interior remains the same as the imported version, 7-inch touch screen with integrated navigation. 4-speaker sound system, Bluetooth connection, USB. Leather and fabric seats, push-button start, leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic electric windows on the driver's side, auto-dimming rearview mirror, manual air conditioning. Rear camera is only available on the sedan version.

Thanks to the assembly line using new welding technology, the Grand i10's chassis is stiffer and more stable. The 1.2 Kappa engine has a capacity of 87 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, maximum torque of 120 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The 1.2 AT version is equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

On the Hanoi - Hai Phong highway, at 120 km/h there is still plenty of gas, more stable and sure than the imported version. The gearbox shifts smoothly, it is difficult to notice when the car automatically changes gears, smooth and stable.

Grand i10 assembles two optional Kappa engine versions including 1.0 and 1.2 MPI.

The electric power steering is light and quite precise, suitable for female drivers. On the highway, the steering wheel is more stable than the imported version and is especially flexible in the city. The assembled Grand i10 operates effectively in the city, the car is small, easy to turn and maneuver, suitable for new drivers.

Switch the gear lever to semi-automatic mode, the automatic transmission shifts to a lower gear when decelerating. In 4th gear, pull back to minus (-) to shift down to 3rd gear, the tachometer needle rises, press the gas, the new Grand i10 accelerates easily when the owner wants to overtake the car in front.

Safety equipment on the assembled Grand i10 is in basic form with anti-lock braking system ABS, EBD brake force distribution, reverse sensor, dual airbags. Version 1.0 has only one driver side airbag.

The i10's interior is assembled like the imported version.

The new Grand i10 operates more dynamically and sportily than its competitors such as Kia Morning and Chevrolet Spark. Thanks to being assembled in Vietnam, the price of the new Hyundai Grand i10 ranges from 340 to 435 million VND.

Hyundai Thanh Cong assembles Grand i10 as one of the first steps to take advantage of the proposed preferential tax on special consumption tax and import of components in 2018. If it continues to import like the past 3 years, i10 will have difficulty competing. Not to mention, Hyundai also stopped the production line of small cars in India. Kia Morning, a big competitor, has been producing in Vietnam since 2008.

In addition to the i10, in the near future, Hyundai Thanh Cong will assemble 90% of its products in Vietnam, only importing a few luxury car models under the Genesis brand.
