IS bans Muslim women from wearing burqas
(Baonghean.vn) - Although it has previously imposed very severe "punishments" on women who do not cover their faces and bodies, such as beatings and even death sentences, the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) recently issued a paradoxical ban on women wearing burkas - the head-to-toe covering worn by Muslim women.

IS issued a ban on burkas because it believes the full-face veil worn by Muslim women is a security threat.
Previously, the Islamic State's religious police had forced all women in the territories it controlled in Iraq and Syria to wear burkas in public. Women who did not comply were punished by the religious police with beatings or executions.
But recently, IS "turned around" when it banned women from wearing veils in Mosul, Iraq.
According to a source within IS, the terrorist organization changed its rules after several leaders were killed in attacks carried out by women wearing burkas and niqabs in recent months.
The IS ban has attracted much attention recently as controversies surrounding Muslim women's clothing have been taking place in many countries around the world, especially European countries.
Previously, IS issued many strange bans that they said did not comply with Sharia Islamic teachings, such as banning football referees from practicing in IS-occupied territories.
IS also prohibits people from smoking, dancing, watching foreign TV channels, using personal internet, using satellite receivers...
