The video, titled “Desert Fire,” was released on August 1. In it, jihadists from Wilayat Sinai, the IS branch in the peninsula, said they would conquer Rome, attack Israel, and attack Egyptian military targets.
The video, believed to have been released from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, once again demonstrates the growing influence of this terrorist organization.
The audio in the tape talks about past attacks in Sinai and how to carry out similar attacks against the West.
“This is just the beginning, and we will meet again in Rome and Beit Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). Jews, wait! The punishment will be terrible and you will pay soon,” the militant said, according to a translation by the Middle East Institute.
The video was released in the context of IS threatening to carry out consecutive attacks against the UK, France and Germany.
In April 2016, 12 militants left Gaza to join the IS branch in the area, and last month, Israel carried out airstrikes against terrorist organizations in the Sinai Peninsula.
Since January 2015, the territory controlled by IS has shrunk from 35,000 km2down to 26,370 km2After suffering heavy losses in Syria and Iraq in recent months, Sinai is becoming a very important area for IS.
