According to a message posted on the Internet, IS claimed responsibility for the attack to prevent an Egyptian military raid on its bases in North Sinai.
Meanwhile, a regional source quoted a statement from the Egyptian military as saying that two car bombs exploded while passing through a security checkpoint near the city of Rafah.
At the same time, many masked gunmen suddenly appeared and opened fire on the soldiers there. Egyptian security forces then launched a counterattack, hunting down and killing 40 terrorists.
Over the years, North Sinai has become a haven and operating area for extremist jihadists, especially the Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis group - a branch of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) in this region.
In order to prevent terrorism, Egyptian security forces have launched many attacks, hunted down and killed hundreds of rebels. However, attacks by jihadist groups have also caused many losses and casualties to the country's soldiers./.
