IS releases video threatening attacks on Russian soil

Islamic State militants have said they will avenge Russian air strikes in Syria, and Moscow says it will review the document.

"Very soon, blood will spill like an ocean," Reuters quoted the threat in the Russian-language video by IS as saying yesterday.

According to the Site Monitoring Organization, the video was released by the IS Al-Hayat Media Center. Previously, IS militants have called for attacks on Russia and the United States in retaliation for their airstrikes in Syria.

"I don't know the authenticity of the video, I don't know the sources, but in any case our special security agencies will definitely look into it," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Western intelligence officials suspect that extremist militants planted a bomb on a Russian A321 passenger plane that crashed in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula in late October, killing 224 people. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has also confirmed that it was likely a terrorist attack. The Egyptian branch of IS claimed that they shot down the plane, but this has been denied by other countries.

Russia began its air campaign against IS in late September at the request of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Moscow has destroyed many important IS targets, causing heavy losses to the group.
