The Merseyside team spent £38.1 million to recruit Jordan Pickford from Sunderland.

The two clubs have agreed a fee for the England U21 international. Upon completion of the remaining contract procedures, Pickford will become a member of Everton and the most expensive English goalkeeper in history.

Pickford is currently training with England's Under-21 squad for this summer's European Championships and will undergo a medical and finalise personal terms with Everton after the tournament.

Last season, Pickford played 29 matches for Sunderland in the Premier League, but could not help the team stay in the league.

Pickford joined Sunderland in 2010, but was loaned out to Darlington, Alfreton Town, Burton Albion, Carlisle United, Bradford City and Preston. It wasn't until January 2016 that Pickford made his first-team debut for Sunderland in a 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Arsenal.

Pickford is the third most expensive goalkeeper in the world after Gianluigi Buffon and Ederson. According to the exchange rate in the UK, Pickford is worth 30 million pounds and Man City spent 35 million pounds to buy Ederson from Benfica last week. Meanwhile, Juventus spent 32.6 million pounds to buy Buffon from Parma in 2001.

However, if calculated by the euro exchange rate, Buffon is worth more than Ederson. In 2001, Buffon was worth 53 million euros while Ederson was only worth 40 million euros in 2017.
