Gold shop thief caught before committing crime because... it smelled

Hai hid under the bed of the gold shop owner's family with the intention of stealing but was discovered by the homeowner because his body gave off a strange smell.

At around 10 p.m. on June 2, at Bao Thuy gold and silver store (branch 2 of Nguyet Hang Limited Liability Company, Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province), people caught Ly Van Hai red-handed while he was hiding under the bed waiting for an opportunity to steal property.

Mr. Phung Duy Bao, the homeowner, said: "My family is in the gold business, so before going to bed, I usually go around checking every room in the house. When I checked my daughter's room (currently empty because she is studying away from home), I smelled something strange, so I turned the bed over to check and discovered someone under the bed."

Mr. Bao's family and neighbors surrounded and captured the subject and handed him over to Ham Yen District Police for investigation and handling according to the law.

Captain Hoang Dinh Phu, Captain of the Criminal-Economic-Drug Crime Investigation Police Team (Ham Yen District Police) said that through initial investigation, the subject declared his name as Ly Van Hai, born in 1987 (registered permanent residence in Tan Thanh commune, Ham Yen district), self-employed.

Since 2005, Hai has wandered around the southern provinces working for hire, then returned to work as a construction worker in the surrounding areas of Hanoi.

On May 28, Hai returned to Tuyen Quang. Out of money, Hai had the idea of ​​stealing when passing by Bao Thuy jewelry store. Hai cut the iron fence on the third floor terrace, broke into the store, then hid under the bed.
