Completed repair of 3 reservoir spillways

(Baonghean.vn) – As of 10:00 a.m. this morning, September 17, officers and workers of the Northern Nghe An Irrigation Company Limited have completed repairing 3 spillways of reservoirs in Yen Thanh and Dien Chau.

For the Dien Ky spillway in Dien Chau, the high tide caused by storm No. 10 has raised the water level, threatening to break the dam. The Bac Nghe An Irrigation Company Limited has coordinated with the Dien Chau district authorities to make every effort to overcome the situation. From September 15 to 17, over 15 trucks and excavators were mobilized to build over 1,200 m3 of soil to raise the embankment to ensure safety.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hanh, Director of Dien Chau Irrigation Enterprise (under the Bac Irrigation Company Limited) said: This spillway has the role of preventing salinity and preserving fresh water. If the dam breaks, it will affect both Yen Thanh and Dien Chau districts. Although it has been temporarily repaired, in the long term, the State needs to invest in a solid construction to ensure more safety.

After the storm, the two reservoirs Ke Sat in Tien Thanh and Don Hung in Hung Thanh (Yen Thanh) were both full of water. Specifically, to ensure safety, Bac Nghe An Irrigation Company Limited coordinated with local authorities to open the spillways of the two reservoirs.

For the Don Hung reservoir with a reserve of 3.8 million m3 of water, 5 mechanical machines were mobilized to widen the spillway by 12 meters, increasing the total spillway width to 25 meters to quickly drain the flood and avoid the risk of dam failure. The volume of excavation and spillway opening reached over 1,200 m3 of soil.
