(Baonghean.vn) - In Truong Sa, dogs are loyal and close friends of officers and soldiers and are the most familiar animals. During each shift on guard duty to protect the island at night, if using binoculars to observe and not yet detect the target, the dogs with sharp ears and bright eyes are able to detect the target from afar. Especially strange targets at sea.

In Truong Sa island district (Khanh Hoa province), officers and soldiers on the islands all raise dozens of dogs. The dogs here are very friendly with visitors from the mainland. From a young age, they were trained by the army to patrol and guard, becoming companions to help the soldiers guarding the island ease their homesickness.
The dog was painted with the words "CR7" by the soldiers on Thuyen Chai Island. This is also its name. However, because it is blind in one eye, the soldiers on the island still call it "Bay Chot". This is also a rare dog that survived after Typhoon Tembin swept through Thuyen Chai Island in late 2017. The others on the island are mostly under one year old.
This dog is named Xoay, raised at Truong Sa Medical Center. This dog is now over 6 years old, weighs 28kg. On Truong Sa Lon Island, most of the people are currently Xoay's descendants.
Xoay was taken care of by officers and soldiers at Truong Sa Medical Center. Before the working group from the mainland came to replace the troops, Xoay did not eat for many days, looking sad. "He knew he was about to leave us, so he was sad. The troops are replaced twice a year, he is too old to witness such farewells," said military doctor Phi Ngoc Duong.
The officers and soldiers who directly cared for Xoay took a photo with the dog before it found a new owner. Each dog on the island has its own assigned caretaker, but everyone regularly feeds and cares for this common pet. Occasionally, soldiers give them milk. The old owner returns to hand over to the new owner.
A dog went to the sea to see off soldiers who had finished their mission and were returning to the mainland to celebrate Tet. Dogs in Truong Sa are usually very good swimmers.
