Survey on the implementation of sustainable poverty reduction program in Tuong Duong

Xop Kha village of Yen Hoa commune and Vang Mon village of Nga My commune are mostly inhabited by Kho Mu and O Du ethnic groups. The delegation listened to representatives of households report on the socio-economic development and poverty reduction in the area. In recent years, thanks to policies on supporting ethnic minorities in mountainous areas, the socio-economic situation of the two villages has had many positive changes. Xop Kha village alone still faces many difficulties. Out of 84 households, 64 are poor and 13 are near-poor. Currently, there is no concrete road into the village and no community cultural house.

In Vang Mon village, there are 109 households of the O Du ethnic group. It is a quite favorable village because it is located next to National Highway 48C connecting to Quy Hop district. The land is relatively flat, the irrigation water source is sufficient for production and cultivation, the climate is mild and the soil is stable.

The people of the two petitions to the working delegation of the Provincial People's Council requested all levels and sectors to support the people in building a model of household economic development, supporting funding for reclaiming rice fields, building cultural institutions, creating jobs for local workers; and having more specific support policies for ethnic minorities who still face many difficulties in economic development and poverty reduction.

According to the report of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district on the target program of sustainable poverty reduction in ethnic minority areas in the period of 2016 - 2020, in the past 5 years, the average economic growth rate of the district reached 9.4%. The average income per capita reached 30.5 million VND/year.

The leaders of Tuong Duong district proposed that the province continue to pay attention to supporting vocational training, job creation, and consumption of agricultural products in localities, and improve the quality of legal education and dissemination activities for people in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions and border communes.

The survey team of the Provincial People's Council acknowledged the efforts of officials and people of Tuong Duong district in implementing the sustainable poverty reduction target program in recent years. At the same time, it requested the district to continue researching and proposing solutions in implementing poverty reduction policies based on local practices; strengthen adherence to reality, encourage ethnic minorities in difficult areas to rise out of poverty steadily.
