(Baonghean) - Now the writer of the letter has gone forever, but the words in the letter are still deeply engraved in the recipient's mind, reminding him of the value of life, of the duty and responsibility of a doctor.

The writer of the letter is teacher MTHG, working in the mountainous district of Tuong Duong - a breast cancer patient. For 2 years, teacher G has been fighting the disease with doctors and nurses. When many hospitals were helpless, but with a strong desire to live, she herself refused to give in to fate. In mid-2016, teacher G returned to the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center of Nghe An province. In the emergency room bed, she read the lines of the letter that her husband wrote down and sent to the Director of the center...

The letter reads: “Dear Uncle V! I am a patient of MTHG. I am currently in the emergency room. Dear Uncle! Yesterday, when you came down to examine me and talk to me, I felt much better, even though I knew my illness was very serious. Tonight, I asked my husband to write a few heartfelt lines to you... Dear Uncle V! It has been more than 4 months now, I cannot walk or talk normally like everyone else, I have to rely on my husband for everything. For more than 2 years, I have struggled with the disease, going from hospital to hospital, taking medicine after medicine, but my condition has not improved but has gotten worse.

I have breast cancer, was treated in Hanoi, now discharged from the hospital for 6 months and then relapsed. The doctor said I have multiple bone metastases, slight collapse of the L3 vertebra, and bone marrow failure affecting the liver and lungs. With this condition, I know my chances of survival are very low. But because my 2 children are still too young, I continue to fight the disease until the last second... I sincerely hope that you will treat me for any day longer."

The desire to live and the responsibility of a wife and mother are expressed in the letters that have touched the hearts of the doctors and nurses at Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center. Although successfully treating teacher G's illness is impossible, facing the pain of illness and the patient's faith, they are determined to do everything to fight for her life, hoping for a miracle.

After a long period of radiation therapy, teacher G often has anemia due to a decrease in red blood cells. However, getting blood to transfuse for teacher G is not simple, because teacher G's blood type is rare blood type B RH - Twice a month, doctors and nurses at Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center are constantly looking for suitable donors. Fortunately, there are a few doctors and nurses in the Center with the same blood type. When there is a shortage of blood, they personally donate blood to her...

After 4 months of fighting the disease, Ms. G passed away. But the desire and responsibility to live in the letters she left behind are always reminders for doctors to see the value of life, to truly become "A good doctor is like a mother", a torchbearer leading the way for life to flourish.
