Mr. Nguyen The Hien, Head of the Management Team of Da Lat Agricultural Market (Da Lat City, Lam Dong), said that since the beginning of June, traders at the market have imported nearly 110 tons of potatoes from China; like thatImport volume decreased by about 2/3 compared to the same period in previous years.

All imported potatoes were sampled and tested by the Plant Quarantine and Inspection Station, Lam Dong Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, and no pesticide residues or heavy metals exceeding the permissible threshold were detected.

Compared to the same period in previous years, the amount of potatoes from China arriving at Da Lat Agricultural Market has decreased by about 2/3. The reason is that instead of transporting potatoes to Da Lat to dye them red soil to make them eye-catching and label them as “Da Lat potatoes”, now that it is banned, consumers import potatoes directly to Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City… to sell.

Chinese potatoes imported to Da Lat cost from 2,000 - 3,500 VND/kg. After being classified, they are sold for 8,000 - 9,000 VND/kg (grade 1 potatoes) but consumption is slow.
