Prosecution of the owner of the facility that sold 60 tons of bean sprouts using growth stimulants
Since the beginning of the year, Nguyen Van Tan's bean sprout production facility has released about 60 tons of bean sprouts containing growth stimulants to the market.
On May 19, Bac Giang Provincial Police announced that the Investigation Police Agency had issued a Decision to initiate criminal proceedings, a Decision to prosecute the accused, and an Order prohibiting him from leaving his place of residence against Nguyen Van Tan (born in 1983), residing on Tran Khat Chan 1 Street, Tho Xuong Ward, Bac Giang City, for the crime of "Violating food safety regulations" as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 317 of the Penal Code.

Through checking compliance with legal regulations onfood safety, Economic Police Department, Bac Giang Provincial Police; Bac Giang Provincial Center for Disease Control and Tho Xuong Ward Police discovered and seized over 2 tons of bean sprouts from 1 to 4 days old and tools and chemicals used to produce bean sprouts at Nguyen Van Tan's bean sprout production facility.
Investigation results show that from January 2025 until the date of discovery, Nguyen Van Tan used the growth stimulant 6-Benzylaminopurine to produce bean sprouts. This is a substance that is not on the list of substances permitted for use in food production.
On average, this facility produces about 500 kg of bean sprouts per day.
Since the beginning of the year, this facility has sold about 60 tons of bean sprouts containing the growth stimulant 6-Benzylaminopurine.
