The anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the West are no longer able to stop Russia, Alexander Shirov, Director of the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Sputnik.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, recently said that the European Union is “working at full speed” to prepare the ninth package of sanctions against Russia.

"No Western sanctions can stop us anymore," said Mr. Shirov.

“Honestly, I can't even imagine what other horrors Washington and Brussels could impose on us? But who knows? For example, they will disconnect the remaining Russian banks from the SWIFT system, they will impose all sanctions on all sectors and on all people, but in fact this will look like homeopathy compared to what has been done before,” he added.

According to him, Russia has learned to adapt to the most negative changes. "We have learned to cope with the crisis. If in 2013 it was admitted that the Russian economy was actually very weak under the pressure of the West, today in many important areas such as food, finance, defense, we have become practically independent," - said the director of the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The expert is convinced that now it is necessary to focus all efforts on the dynamic development of the national economy, while at the same time, learning to accept reasonable risks.

Shirov concludes: “Let's say that financing investments through domestic borrowing, through the budget deficit, is an obvious risk. But the adoption of this mechanism will allow us to receive additional economic impulses and cope more quickly with the consequences of the crisis.”

Sanctions against Russia:

After Russia began a special military operation to demilitarize and de-fascize Ukraine, the West increased sanctions pressure on Moscow.

European Union countries are considering dumping Russian oil and gas. Many countries have announced freezes on Russian assets and calls for a dumping of Russian energy. All of this has become a problem for the US and Europe, causing sharp increases in fuel and food prices.
