Vietnam Volleyball Federation officially complains about athlete's ineligibility to compete

On August 13, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) officially informed about the incident related to the decision of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) regarding the case of an athlete who was deemed ineligible to participate in the 2025 Women's U21 Volleyball World Championship in Indonesia.

VFV affirmed that it had complied with FIVB regulations on athlete registration procedures as well as submitted complete athlete profiles to FIVB before the tournament. These profiles were reviewed and approved by FIVB, allowing athletes to participate in the competition.

VFV tiến hành khiếu nại chính thức theo quy trình của FIVB về việc VĐV không đủ điều kiện thi đấu.
VFV conducts an official complaint according to FIVB procedures regarding the athlete's ineligibility to compete.

However, the FIVB's decision on the athlete's ineligibility was made based on the request for additional documents and some conditions for the athlete on August 12. These are conditions that have never been previously prescribed for athletes of the Vietnamese team.

Therefore, VFV is making an official complaint according to FIVB procedures, and is coordinating with competent Vietnamese authorities to clarify and protect the rights of athletes as well as the reputation of Vietnamese Volleyball. VFV hopes that the media and the public will receive objective information and support the Vietnam U21 Women's Volleyball Team.

Previously, on the evening of August 12, the FIVB homepage posted information: After receiving feedback that the Vietnam Volleyball Federation had registered and used an ineligible athlete to participate in the 2025 Women's U21 World Volleyball Championship, this agency conducted an investigation in accordance with regulations. The investigation results determined that the above athlete did not meet the competition conditions specified in Article 12.2 of the FIVB 2023 Disciplinary Regulations. "Therefore, based on Article 13.5.2 of the tournament regulations and Article 14.4 of the disciplinary regulations, the FIVB Disciplinary Subcommittee has ruled that the matches of the Vietnam Volleyball Team with the participation of this athlete will be considered a loss and the athlete will be disqualified from the tournament, effective immediately," FIVB affirmed on its homepage.

Tottenham lost the European Super Cup in an unthinkable scenario

In the early morning of August 14, Tottenham led PSG 2-0 until the 84th minute but were equalized, then lost 3-4 in the penalty shootout of the European Super Cup at Bluenergy Stadium.

Tottenham played with flying colors and completely dominated the game. In fact, the pressure the "Roosters" faced in the first 45 minutes was much easier than what they experienced against Man Utd in the Europa League final.

Coach Thomas Frank's team did not have any shots on target. On the offensive front, the North London representative showed efficiency from long-range shots and high balls.

Lucas Chevalier, PSG's new goalkeeper, had a hard day. Despite blocking dangerous shots from Richarlison and Joao Palhinha, he was still helpless against Micky Van de Ven's rebound in the 40th minute.

PSG were completely deadlocked against Tottenham in the first half.

With a bit more luck, Tottenham would have gone into the break with a 2-goal lead. Just before the end of the first half, Richarlison gave PSG fans a heart attack with a header that hit the post.

When coach Enrique's calculations in the second half had not yet taken effect, PSG's net shook for the second time in the 48th minute. It was another high ball and another central defender that silenced the French team's stands.

From Pedro Porro's cross, Cristian Romero jumped high and headed the ball fiercely. Chevalier touched the ball but could not save the Champions League champions.

After the second goal, PSG started to attack. In the 67th minute, Bradley Barcola scored from close range against Tottenham but the goal was disallowed due to an offside by Fabian Ruiz, the player who touched the ball earlier. In the rare time when there was space in the 71st minute, Ousmane Dembele, the Golden Ball candidate, disappointed again with a shot that went straight into the advertising board.

The Ligue 1 representative had to wait until the 85th minute and his 10th shot to penetrate the Tottenham net. Not Dembele, Doue, the name coming off the bench, Lee Kang-in was the one to rekindle hope with an accurate shot from the 16.5m line.

In the final minutes of the match, coach Frank used his substitution to strengthen the defense. However, Tottenham could not maintain their fragile advantage, when Goncalo Ramos headed the ball into the net in the 4th minute of injury time of the second half. The two teams drew 2-2 after 90 minutes and will immediately enter the penalty shootout according to UEFA regulations.

In the first round, Vitinha missed his shot. However, Tottenham threw away the continental title with two consecutive misses by Van de Ven and Mathys Tel. In the end, PSG won 4-3 in the penalty shootout, thereby completing a historic 5-trophy including Ligue 1, Champions League, French Super Cup, European Super Cup, French National Cup.

Liverpool welcomes new recruit with record price

According to ESPN, Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign promising young centre-back Giovanni Leoni from Parma.

The 18-year-old impressed in Serie A last season, making 17 appearances and attracting the attention of several big clubs, including Inter Milan. However, the English port city team has moved ahead in the race and is set to complete the deal for an initial fee of 35 million euros.

In this summer's transfer window, "The Kop" spent a total of 328 million euros, an amount equal to the previous 3 transfer windows combined.

Leoni will become the most expensive U19 player in Anfield history. This is an important addition to Liverpool's defense, especially in the context of Jarell Quansah's recent move to Bayer Leverkusen. The Italian center-back will join coach Arne Slot's defensive group, alongside experienced names such as Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.

MU earns more than 50 million euros from Hojlund

MU is close to selling Rasmus Hojlund to AC Milan for 50 million euros, thereby creating a significant turning point in coach Ruben Amorim's squad cleansing plan.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, MU and AC Milan negotiated favorably when the Danish striker changed his attitude and was ready to move to San Siro to play football. The appearance of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo made Hojlund accept that he no longer had a place at Old Trafford.

The source confirmed that the deal includes a loan fee of €6 million, with a buyout clause of €45 million. Notably, Milan will pay Hojlund's entire salary. The deal is likely to be completed shortly.

Hojlund's departure helps MU have more budget for reinvestment.

On August 12, the appearance of Technical Director Tare at the Carnago Training Center, where Zlatan Ibrahimovic was also present, showed that the deal was gradually being decided. Coach Max Allegri believes that Hojlund is a reasonable investment because the player has experience playing in Serie A.

If all procedures are finalized, MU will not only free up a significant salary fund but also collect a large amount of money to reinvest in other priority positions before the summer transfer market in 2025 is about to close. The "Red Devils" now want Carlos Baleba from Brighton.

Joining MU from Atalanta, Hojlund had a promising debut season with 10 goals in the Premier League, but in the 2024/25 season he only scored 4 goals. Although he affirmed that he wanted to stay and compete for a position, his opportunities were significantly narrowed after MU spent a lot of money to bring Sesko.
