There are no two sets of textbooks for the North and South.

Leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and the Vietnam Education Publishing House (VEP) both confirmed that there is no such thing as textbooks between the North and the South.

Regarding the information that in 2016, the conditions for compiling two separate sets of textbooks for the North and the South will be completed, Mr. Vu Van Hung - General Director of Vietnam Education Publishing House affirmed: "The information that in 2016, two sets of textbooks for the North and the South will be published is incorrect. Vietnam Education Publishing House will soon have a specific response on this issue in the near future."

Responding to reporters, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien also denied the issuance of textbooks for the two regions. Mr. Hien said that the project to innovate the general education curriculum and textbooks is implemented according to the policy of one program but with many sets of books. The policy of one program and many sets of books means that the Ministry only sets out specific criteria for textbooks and is responsible for appraisal before allowing that set of books or books to be circulated on the market. The selection of books to use will be decentralized to teachers and subject groups of schools to suit their students, so there is no distinction between books from the North or the South. After this program is issued, the Ministry will announce the program of each subject and on that basis, it will be able to compile books to serve the innovation of general education from the 2018-2019 school year.

Previously, on February 14, information appeared that in 2016, the Vietnam Education Publishing House will complete the conditions for compiling two sets of textbooks for the North and the South. The structure of the textbooks will support the development of students' abilities and qualities, visualize the content, enhance practical situations, innovate the structure, innovate teaching methods; At the same time, build a system of textbook products, teaching aids and equipment in sync with the new textbooks such as reference books, tapes, tools, equipment, e-books....
