Russia's new destroyer will make the US worried

Russia has begun technical design work on a modern nuclear destroyer. The new generation destroyer will be superior to American warships and will be able to operate independently in all regions of the world's oceans.

Russia has announced the initial technical specifications of the project 23,560 destroyer: the Leader has a displacement of about 18,000 tons, is 200 m long and 20 m wide.

The new generation destroyer is completely "invisible" on enemy radar screens thanks to the latest technology in structure and electronic equipment. The ship has a maximum sea voyage capacity of 90 days without refueling.

Maximum speed exceeds 30 knots (nearly 56 km/h). Leader-class ships have extremely powerful firepower comparable to cruisers: the destroyer is equipped with 70 missiles such as Onyx anti-ship missiles and Kalibr cruise missiles, 16 anti-submarine missiles, 128 anti-aircraft missiles, two torpedo tubes on two double launchers. The ship will carry two helicopters on board.

The new generation destroyer can become the main class of warships of the Russian Navy, capable of performing tasks in any area of ​​the world's oceans, and can replace three classes of warships: classic destroyers, anti-submarine destroyers and light missile cruisers. Thanks to nuclear power, the Leader class ships will be able to ensure the constant presence of the Russian fleet in the world's oceans.

Although the new destroyer was not yet completed, the little information available about Leader had American admirals worried.

They seem to be "losing sleep" because they are worried not only about China's development of its naval power, but also about Russia's continuous challenge to the power of the US Navy on the world's oceans...

"The appearance of warships of this class in the Russian Navy will be one of the saddest news for the United States," said Deputy Franz Klintsevich, Deputy Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Federation Council of Russia. "A Leadder-class destroyer is comparable in power to a group of warships capable of independent combat even against modern enemy aircraft carrier groups."

According to plans, in the very near future Russia will begin construction of the first destroyer of the Leader class. As planned, by 2022, six new-generation nuclear destroyers will be built. In total, the Russian Navy will have 20 such ships.
