(Baonghean.vn) - Today (September 28), a working delegation from the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control inspected and directed the work of overcoming the consequences of the recent floods in Nghe An.

The delegation was led by Mr. Pham Duc Luan - Deputy Director General of the General Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Deputy of the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control. The delegation inspected the actual situation in Quynh Luu district - the most severely damaged locality in Nghe An province.

Due to the influence of storm No. 6, from September 23 to the morning of September 27, Nghe An province had moderate to heavy rain with common rainfall from 87 to 582 mm, of which Quynh Luu district had the highest rainfall, causingfloodin many residential areas.

Although Nghe An has proactively implemented solutionsrespondfrom early, but due to heavy and concentrated rainfall, the flood killed 1 person; over 3,700 houses were flooded, the whole province had 14 households at risk of being affected by landslides. Nearly 5,000 hectares of rice, corn and other crops were flooded, 15,000 poultry, livestock, 1,600 hectares of aquaculture were washed away. Many traffic and irrigation works were damaged.

In Quynh Luu district alone, as of the afternoon of September 27, 2,953 houses were still flooded, of which 620 households had to be evacuated. According to information from the district People's Committee, Quynh Luu had 15 livestock and 8,920 poultry killed or swept away; 413 hectares of pond fish farming, 80 hectares of shrimp and 1,200 tons of salt damaged.

After checking the flood recovery situation in Quynh Lam commune, one of the most heavily flooded communes and as of September 28, the water had not yet receded, the working group went to inspect,remedial directionat Ta Thai dike, Quynh Hong commune. Due to heavy rain and flooding, the dike here has overflowed.

Acknowledging Nghe An's efforts in proactively responding to floods, at the same time, comrade Pham Duc Luan - Deputy Director General of the General Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Deputy of the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control directed: Local authorities and functional agencies at all levels need to focus on timely providing food, clean water and essential necessities to people in flooded areas. Direct, mobilize and encourage people to clean up and treat the environment as soon as the flood recedes to limit the outbreak of diseases.

"After the flood, we need to proactively prepare everything well."resourcesfor reproduction, overcoming damage caused by floods, and soon stabilizing people's lives. Nghe An province must soon compile statistics on damage to facilities and infrastructure caused by floods so that the Central Government can provide timely support," emphasized comrade Pham Duc Luan.
