Anatoly Karpov, who was world chess champion for 10 years between 1975 and 1985, was listed as a director of a Cypriot company called Indiforth Ltd.
In 2011, he was elected Deputy Chairman of a Committee in the lower house of parliament - the State Duma - under President Putin's United Russia party. He is also a well-known philatelist with a stamp collection worth at least £10 million.
However, Mr Karpov has said he has no activity related to offshore shell companies and stressed that the allegations against him are a mistake.
Meanwhile, Andrey Filatov - a tycoon has also been named in the recently released Panamanian documents. Accordingly, this character is listed as a director and shareholder of Telecom Express Ltd. - a company with connections to the British Virgin Islands.
Mr Filatov was elected head of the Russian Chess Federation in February 2014, replacing Arkady Dvorkovich, who had headed the federation for the past four years. However, Mr Filatov has not commented on this information.
Not only are there two "big names" in the chess world, Anatoly Karpov and Andrey Filatov, but previously, Bobby Fischer, who was considered the greatest chess player of all time, was also listed in part of the Panama Papers.
Or another case is the Grandmaster who passed away in 2008. This character was allegedly granted power of attorney through a company called Kettering Consultants Inc in October 2007.
These are individuals and companies on the list of 200,000 secretive tax evaders recently published by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).
