Over the past 6 months, 87 grassroots party organizations and more than 6,000 party members nationwide have been subject to disciplinary action, including officials under the management of the Politburo and the Secretariat due to shortcomings and violations in leadership, direction, management of finance, public investment, large and prolonged losses, violations in personnel work, emulation and reward work, and violations of the working regulations of the Party Executive Committee, and violations of the principle of democratic centralism.
A typical case is the case related to the process of promotion, appointment and transfer of Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Giang province. In another case, stemming from an article reflecting on the ownership of "huge" assets by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa and her family, the General Secretary requested the Central Inspection Committee and relevant agencies to investigate.
Also from the press reflections related to the appointment of officials at the Southwest Steering Committee, when the Central Inspection Committee got involved, a series of violations in leadership, management, and appointment of officials were revealed.
These are violations that occurred over a long period of time, over many terms, some of which were very serious, causing major economic and social consequences. The proposal to discipline party members and party organizations that violated the law received the full support and sympathy of the people.
Mr. To Quang Thu - Deputy Head of the Central Inspection Commission said that the Central Inspection Commission has intervened, proactively and promptly identified the problem, detected signs of violations and determined the subjects, content and time of inspection.
"The Central Inspection Commission's timeliness, proactiveness, determination, comprehensiveness, but also its caution, impartiality, and objectivity in detecting violations and resolutely inspecting and handling them were assessed by the General Secretary as a bright spot in 2016 and early 2017," said Mr. To Quang Thu.
At the 12th meeting of the Central Steering Committee on anti-corruption on the morning of July 31, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, in his capacity as Head of the Steering Committee, assessed that, "in recent times, the fight against corruption has become a movement and trend of the whole society."
The General Secretary emphasized: “Publicity is the “magic sword” to heal wounds. In the coming time, the fight against corruption must continue to be strengthened, more resolute, more effective, without any obstacles or pressure.”
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Bao, Senior Lecturer at the Academy of Journalism and Communication, said that with the determination and direction of the Central Committee, the unity of action within the entire Party and the support of the people, the fight against corruption, although still arduous, difficult and complicated, will certainly be successful.
“I agree with the General Secretary’s opinion at the Central Steering Committee Conference on anti-corruption. We must act more resolutely and learn from experience to conduct regular, in-depth and specific inspections. Not only the Party inspects, the Government Inspectorate inspects, organizes inspections, but inspection and supervision must rely on the people, promote the people’s opinions and it is the people who help us see most clearly the stories that have happened in the past,” Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Bao said.
The recent conclusions of the Central Inspection Commission regarding violations by relevant groups and individuals are accurate, timely, but cautious, and certain with scientific and reasonable grounds. The public is looking forward to knowing the next forms of handling for the discovered violations, especially the serious ones./.
