The activities will contribute to spreading more widely the life, career, ideology, morality and style of President Ho Chi Minh to the Vietnamese people and the international community, and are a practical activity contributing to the implementation of Directive 05 on "Promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style".
On the afternoon of September 5, during a meeting with Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay expressed her pleasure at being invited to attend and speak at the 35th Anniversary of UNESCO's Resolution honoring President Ho Chi Minh, who made important contributions in many aspects in the fields of culture, education, art and the cause of national liberation, the struggle for peace, democracy and social progress of the world's people as affirmed in the 1987 Resolution. This is also the historical mission of the Organization since its establishment in 1945.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc, Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, emphasized the significance of UNESCO's Resolution honoring President Ho Chi Minh 35 years ago.
On his journey to find a way to save the country, President Ho Chi Minh came into contact with different peoples and civilizations. The combination of national culture and the quintessence of humanity gave him a comprehensive and unique worldview. Wherever he went, even wherever he had never been, Ho Chi Minh's thoughts, humanistic values, ethics and personality always had a strong appeal, spreading strongly, creating a strong influence on the struggles for independence, freedom, peace, justice, democracy and social progress in many places around the world. With his "important contributions in many aspects in the fields of culture, education and art", in 1987, UNESCO issued a Resolution honoring President Ho Chi Minh as "Hero of National Liberation and Outstanding Cultural Man".
The Resolution is a strong testament to the correctness and righteousness of Vietnam's national liberation cause, and is the international community's recognition of President Ho Chi Minh's great contributions to the cause of humankind's struggle against oppression and injustice, for national independence and social progress. The Resolution is also the strong encouragement and support of international friends for Vietnam's cause of national renewal and development, from which our country has achieved the results it has today.
Ho Chi Minh's legacy is a practical and theoretical whole, including his entire vivid life, great career, progressive thoughts, brilliant morality, simple and noble style. The legacy he left behind is universal, timeless and fully relevant, that is independence, autonomy, human liberation, international solidarity, respect for cultural diversity; eradicating ignorance associated with eradicating illiteracy; lifelong learning associated with global education; tree planting festival associated with environmental protection...
President Ho Chi Minh founded the Communist Party of Vietnam to lead our people to gain power, gain national independence, fight for national unification and build socialism in Vietnam. Our Party affirms to consistently take Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought as the ideological foundation and compass for revolutionary action. Therefore, UNESCO's honor for our beloved President Ho Chi Minh affirms the correctness of the ideals and revolutionary path that he chose and that our entire Party, army and people are steadfastly following to realize his wish, which is "to bring independence to the nation" and "to bring a life of freedom, prosperity and true happiness to all".
This honor is a great source of encouragement for each party member to continue to promote studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style. This is also a strong proof against false arguments and distortions of the correct policies and guidelines of the Party and State of Vietnam.
Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc emphasized that President Ho Chi Minh's legacy will forever spread and enhance the value of Vietnamese culture, while affirming the Party's correct policies and guidelines in the cause of protecting, building and developing the country, caring for people's lives and international integration.
At the 24th session of UNESCO held in Paris (from October 20 to November 30, 1987), UNESCO passed Resolution 24C/18.65 recognizing that "1990 will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh, national liberation hero and outstanding cultural figure of Vietnam".
