Information from the District Farmers' AssociationKy Sonsaid that after 1 month of calling for support for the consumption of Ky Son ginger specialty, by April 6, farmers' associations in the province had supported the consumption of 60 tons. Of which, many commune-level farmers' associations had supported the consumption for the second time, with tons of ginger; the provincial Department of Industry and Trade also supported the consumption of 700 kg.
Mr. Phan Van Manh - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ky Son district said that this year, Ky Son's ginger output is about 5,200 tons, due to the difficult market consumption, the selling price isgingerhas dropped sharply, to only nearly 6,000 VND/kg, while in previous years the price of ginger fluctuated above 20,000 VND/kg. Although the price has dropped, it is still difficult to sell; as of April 6, after the support efforts of organizations and individuals in the district, there are still about 4,500 tons that have not been sold. Therefore, hundreds of hectares of ginger have not been harvested, at risk of re-sprouting.

"If we don't sell the ginger in time this April, by May, the ginger will sprout again and the quality will decrease. More importantly, with the current situation of ginger prices hitting rock bottom and sluggish sales, ethnic minorities will no longer be interested in ginger," Mr. Phan Van Manh worried.
Ky Son ginger specialty products are grown on the mountainside, with a cool climate all year round, good quality, and have been granted a certificate of geographical indication registration by the Department of Intellectual Property since 2019. Ky Son ginger has 2 types: ginger and buffalo horn ginger, and people finish harvesting at the end of April.
