Another shooting in Kansas (USA), at least 34 people injured and dead

(Baonghean.vn) - At least four people were killed and 30 others injured when a gunman opened fire at a lawn mower factory in a small Kansas town on February 26, local police said.

Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton said the death toll could be as high as seven. He said the shooter was an employee at Excel Industries and was killed at the scene: “Authorities shot and killed the shooter. He was an Excel employee.”

Local media have identified the perpetrator as Cedric Ford, a former painter at the factory who had previously posted a photo of himself with a lethal weapon on Facebook.

Witnesses at the scene confirmed they saw the perpetrator shoot a woman in the factory parking area before entering the assembly area and firing continuously.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Walton said at least two of the victims were shot by the perpetrator on his way to the Excel factory, one in the shoulder and the other in the leg.

“We want to know what triggered this,” Walton told local television. “We need to investigate the shooter’s background, his past, and then we have to find a way to move past this.”

The victims were taken to area hospitals, while relatives of those who worked at the factory continued to flock to the scene to hear news of their loved ones.

A man said his 21-year-old nephew was shot four times in the back and has been taken to hospital.

Another man who was in the factory when the shooting took place said people tried to run for their lives as the perpetrator used an AK-47 and a 9mm rifle to shoot wildly into the assembly area.

“I have heard a lot about shootings at cinemas and other places. It is terrible, the perpetrator planned his crime in advance,” he said.

Mass shootings have become common recently across the United States, raising questions about gun control in the country.
