Mr. Dau Tien Sy said: 4 months ago, his family decided to convert 3 sao of rice field into a pond to try raising loach. After finishing the pond, he went to a loach breeding facility in Thai Binh province to buy 120,000 fry (VND 2.2 million) to release.
The pond was surrounded by a dike and carefully fenced with barbed wire and B40 steel. However, the flood in October caused the pond to be flooded, and a number of loach fish escaped.
He diligently learned about the experience of raising loach fish from documents and books, so after 4 months of raising, the fish, which were only the size of a toothpick, grew to the size of a finger, with a weight of 45 fish reaching 1 kg. Mr. Sy plans to sell them soon.

Currently, the company supplying fish fry is purchasing commercial loach at a price of 80,000 VND/kg. According to Mr. Sy: Loach is easy to raise, has no disease, and grows relatively quickly.
This is the first loach farming model in Tan Ky district, initially assessed as successful.
Loach is an omnivorous, cold-loving species, its main food is plankton, microorganisms and agricultural by-products. If the field is fully fertilized and has plenty of natural food, concentrated feed can be reduced. To prepare food for fish, households raising loach in rice fields proactively pack fermented manure into bags and then release it into the fields. The fermented manure creates color for fish and is also an environment to create food sources: microorganisms and red worms for fish fry. Using fermented food for loach not only creates an oxygen-rich environment but also helps save costs for waste treatment in livestock farming, while reducing the cost of buying food; at the same time, the fermented manure is applied directly to rice, helping to increase rice yield, limiting the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Harvest: After 5-6 months of commercial farming, the loach must reach a size of 25-40 fish/kg and can be harvested in small batches or completely for sale. |
