For the first time in 30 years, a new print newspaper has been launched in the UK.
Trinity Mirror, the group that owns the Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror, said it will launch The New Day on February 29, the first British print newspaper in nearly 30 years.
Trinity Mirror has announced a new 40-page print edition that will be published at the end of each week. Although print newspaper revenues have fallen significantly in recent years and many major newspapers have had to close and move to digital formats, Trinity Mirror has expressed “optimism” and a “politically neutral” stance in its new publication.
Accordingly, The New Day “will present news and stories in a balanced way, without leading readers to questions that are too profound or difficult to understand.” This newspaper was born according to the needs of readers and is the first newspaper designed for the modern lifestyle of readers.

Simon Fox, managing director of Trinity Mirror, said The New Day will not have its own website but will be available on social media. The publisher said it will be a completely independent newspaper and not a “twin sister” of The Daily Mirror.
The Independent recently announced it would cease publication next month and remain digital-only. But Trinity Mirror insists there is still interest in the world of print journalism and The New Day will appeal to a whole new audience.
On release day, The New Day will be distributed for free to over 40,000 retailers, then sold for 25 cents (about 7,000 VND) for the first day before officially selling for 50 cents.
Alison Phillips, Editor-in-Chief of The New Day, said: “Many people are no longer buying newspapers, not because they don’t enjoy print, but because the current newspapers are not meeting their needs. More than 1 million people have stopped buying newspapers in the last two years, but we believe a large number of readers will return to the right products.”
The content is based on information from the Mirror, a British social news site. Mirror has a large readership worldwide thanks to the diversity and uniqueness of the information it publishes.
