Regarding the incident in which two Vietnamese fishermen were shot by the Thai Navy when they entered waters believed to be Thai, according to Songkla provincial police, the navy fired warning shots and signaled the Vietnamese fishing boats, but the boats fled, forcing the navy to open fire.

On July 8, a Thai naval vessel opened fire on a group of Vietnamese fishing boats, injuring two fishermen and leaving one boat driver missing. Of the Ben Tre-registered vessels, two collided with the Thai naval vessel and sank.

Representative of the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand Nguyen Tat Thanh said that this morning (July 11), the agency met with the fishermen who were arrested by Bangkok last weekend, and said that the two injured people were walking normally because their injuries were not dangerous.

"Citizen protection officers are continuing to work with the Thai side in Songkhla. The embassy has not yet received official information from Thailand and has requested to discuss as soon as possible," Mr. Thanh said.
