(Baonghean.vn) -Hong Yen and Truong Tien villages in Dien Ngoc commune, Dien Chau, Nghe An, in addition to the profession of going to sea to make salt, also have the traditional profession of making dry cakes (rice paper). Making rice paper is the livelihood of hundreds of families, a unique cultural feature of the coastal countryside.
Hong Yen and Truong Tien villages were recognized as rice paper making villages in 2012. Currently, there are about 300 households in the two hamlets participating in and making a living from this profession. |
Traditional handmade cakes are still preserved by most villagers. |
The rice used to make the cake is Khang Dan rice, soaked for 2-3 hours then ground, then add water and soak for about 6 hours, let all the residue settle, take the rice flour and mix with water so that the flour is not too thick or too thin. |

The dry cake is added with salt, garlic, pepper, sugar and sprinkled with sesame when spreading. |
The rice paper sheets are dried after being coated. |
Although it is a coastal area associated with seafood exploitation and fishing activities, dried cakes are the product that makes the brand of the craft village of Hong Yen, Truong Tien. |
In addition to the completely manual method, many households have boldly invested in rice cake making machines to increase productivity and reduce labor. (In the photo is the rice cake making machine of Mr. Hoang Van Thang's family, Hong Yen hamlet. Previously, they only made more than 30kg of rice per day by hand, but now they make 1-2 quintals of rice per day). |
The machine's conveyor system helps increase productivity many times over. |
Overcoming the hot summer days of Nghe An, the villagers still work every day by the fire to deliver goods to customers in time. |
