Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee of the State Duma (Russian lower house of parliament), Yuri Shvytkin, commented on the negotiations between the US and Poland on the deployment of permanent US troops in the country.

"Of course, today we are witnessing the militarization of Poland. At the same time, Warsaw is following Washington, which directs it in its aggressive policy and destabilizes the situation on the European continent. Unfortunately, by its decisions, Poland has put European security at risk," said Yuri Shvytkin.

Earlier, Defense One reported that Washington and Warsaw are negotiating the deployment of permanent US troops in Poland, with the preparation of the agreement likely to take six months to a year.

It should be noted that US Deputy Secretary of Defense John Rood held a meeting with Polish officials in Warsaw, discussing the establishment of a permanent US base in the country.

In May 2018, the Polish Ministry of Defense published a document expressing its readiness to invest $1.5-2 billion in the construction of a US military base.
