Russian and German leaders discuss Ukraine
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 19, the leaders of Russia and Germany, Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, held a phone conversation about the situation in the Donetsk Autonomous Republic.
The conversation was held at the initiative of the Federal Republic of Germany. During the conversation, President Putin expressed deep concern about the unstable situation in Donetsk following the assassination of Donetsk leader Dakhartrenko last month.
Mrs. Angela Merkel also expressed great concern about the current conflicts in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a phone conversation.
At the end of the talks, both leaders agreed on the need to continue to fully implement the Minsk agreements, which were established in 2015, including the need for Ukraine to have a firm legal confirmation of a special mechanism for this region.
Remember, the issues related to Ukraine in recent years have caused tensions in relations between Russia and the West. The US and the West have imposed a series of sanctions on Russia. Angela Merkel and Germany themselves have also taken a very tough stance towards Russia in order to force Russia to “return” Crimea and “not interfere in Ukraine’s internal affairs”.
Are the above discussions and consensuses a sign of a change in Germany's attitude towards Russia in the future?
