OSCE Office Chairman Miroslav Laichak, during a meeting in Brussels with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin, said that Kiev's refusal to invite Russian observers to the elections contradicts the principles and obligations of OSCE member states.

OSCE Office Head and Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Laichak met with his Ukrainian counterpart Pavel Klimkin in Brussels ahead of the EU Foreign Ministers' Council meeting. Both diplomats discussed the current situation in Ukraine and the surrounding region," Gandel said.

According to Gandel, Laichak reiterated to Klimkin that the decision of the Kiev authorities to exclude Russian citizens from the number of observers in the presidential elections does not meet the principles and obligations of the OSCE participating states and asked his Ukrainian counterpart to reconsider this decision.

The head of the OSCE called on Ukraine, despite difficulties in relations with Russia, to respect the organization's principles, "thus contributing to the democratic process and monitoring elections."
