Faced with the above situation, the People's Committee of Nghe An province has just issued an urgent dispatch assigning the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Planning and Investment, Finance, Construction, Transport, Natural Resources and Environment, Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, the People's Committee of Ky Son district and relevant agencies to urgently establish an interdisciplinary inspection team and arrange for them to conduct field inspections, assess the current situation, risks and propose solutions to report to the Provincial People's Committee for handling.
Previously, the People's Committee of Ky Son district had submitted a document to the Provincial People's Committee requesting support in inspecting, surveying, and handling landslides with high risk of causing accidents in Muong Tip commune to provide advice on solutions to help the district overcome the situation, in order to help people soon have stable and safe housing.
Specifically, the People's Committee of Ky Son district said that Xop Phe, Vang Phao, Na My villages, Muong Tip commune have 197 households with 1,035 people living stably since 1990, along with 3 schools including: Nam Tip Ethnic Minority Secondary School, Muong Tip 1 Primary School, Muong Tip Kindergarten with more than 500 students studying.
The residential areas of the above villages have terrain by the mountains, by the river and are located along the Muong Xen - Ta Do - Khe Kien routes. Since May 2018, the rainfall in this area has been higher than many previous years and has lasted for a long time.
In particular, recently, due to the impact of storms No. 3 and No. 4, prolonged heavy rains caused flash floods, especially landslides in residential areas of the above villages, especially serious cracks with a width of 5-10 cm, 100-200 m long along the positive slope located above the residential area of the people.
Faced with that situation, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ky Son district issued a decision on August 31 to establish an inspection team, survey the scene, and direct the locality to mobilize people to evacuate to safe places, especially on rainy days, especially at night, and at the same time monitor the development of the crack to have timely response measures.
And on September 11, when the People's Committee of Ky Son district submitted a report to the Provincial People's Committee, some households still had to evacuate and did not dare to return home because at night they could still hear the sound of landslides echoing.
According to reports from district inspection teams, landslides are becoming more and more complicated, with large volumes and wide areas, and the risk of landslides burying houses and schools at any time, especially now during the rainy season.
