Pentagon: Russia will win in Ukraine if US stops aid to Kiev

TASS news agency quoted US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin speaking at a hearing at the US Senate Appropriations Committee as saying that Russia's victory in the conflict in Ukraine "will happen".

"If we don't support Ukraine, President Putin wins," said Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin.

Mr. Austin expressed the view that the Russian leadership sensed the West's fatigue due to the conflict in Ukraine, and Moscow "will soon gain the upper hand." Therefore, the head of the Pentagon believes that Russia's strategy is to "wait for the West to tire."

In addition, in response to Senator Dick Durbin's question about whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his recent visit to Washington, said that Kiev would "lose this war without financial support from the United States and NATO." Austin is confident that President Zelensky was not exaggerating when predicting the defeat of the country's Armed Forces, or making comments about the possibility of stopping financial support from the West.

The Pentagon chief also noted that support for Ukraine and Israel is "an American investment in the defense and industrial base."

"This helps us rebuild our stockpile and provides the depth and flexibility to continue to execute on plans that have been underway for years around the world," said Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin.

Defense Secretary Austin stressed that the United States must continue to support both Ukraine and Israel.

Regarding Washington's aid to Kiev, Ria Novosti quoted an analysis in the Polish newspaper Onet, stating that from the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict, the West "did not expect Kiev's victory." This was further reinforced by the fact that the US never supported the provision of weapons systems or in quantities that could completely defeat the Russian army.
